Palazzo Venturelli
Residenza d'epoca
Every once in awhile you get to stay in a place that is special. This is what the opportunity to stay at the Palazzo Venturelli is - a special experience, the opportunity to stay in an authentic ancient palazzo.
Dating back to the 16th Century, the Palazzo Venturelli was built on the foundations of a domus romana that dates back to the 1 AD. Indeed, one of the rooms of the lower levels has an original tile mosaic floor from the original Roman structure. Some of the walls have the bricks from the original foundation.
It is thought that the original name of the family that owned the palazzo may have been Petruccioli, and the family name was changed to Venturelli - buona vertura, meaning good luck.
The palazzo was bought by the Antonini family and in 2000 and a six-year restoration project commenced. The ballroom, as seen above, has the original tile floor and frescoes telling the story of the Venturelli Family who won honours defending the town. The floor and the frescoes are original and date from the 1500's.
The outside of the palazzo is like many you will have walked by in old roman towns. Astre stone exterior wall. Larger windows, all with iron work for protection, and a large wooden door.
But by staying at the Palazzo Venturelli you have the unique opportunity to go behind the door, and see the beauty of the inside. A larger stairwell takes you from the main floor to the second floor where three rooms have been carefully renovated to provide you a level of luxury.
We stayed in the Yellow Room (pictured to the right). The other two rooms are the Pink and Blue rooms. Each is different, each with its own special touches. Each providing an experience. To enter the Yellow Room, you walk through your private sitting room (picture on the right). Each of the rooms have a sitting room. The sofas in the sitting room open as beds if extra sleeping arrangements are required. |

The Yellow Room has beautiful drapes and a stunning large canopy bed. There are plenty of windows and all the rooms are bright and filled with well appointed furniture. There is private bath for all the rooms. Arrangements can be made with the Palazzo Venturelli for special events such as meetings, weddings, wine tastings and concerts. The grand size of the Palazzo provides plenty of room and change of spaces for people to move. It feels so regal to walk from one room to the next, or to take the large central staircase for a different floor. Catering arrangements can be made for a complete group experience. |

On the third floor of the Palazzo there are also two apartments available. Each of the apartments has its own full kitchen area as well as private bedrooms. The apartments are suitable for groups of up to five persons. From the patio at the rear of the Palazzo there is a view of the hills of Umbria. |

Amelia, is the oldest town in Umbria. The old centre is behind massive walls and entry into the town centre is through one of the gates. It is best if you have a car although train and bus will take you to Amelia. Umbria is very scenic and is best appreciated by driving and visiting many of the small hill-top towns. Amelia is located 45 Orvieto or a short distance from the town of Orte. Staying in Amelia is an option to see Umbria as well as take a day trip into Rome. From Orte it is a 40 minute train ride to Rome and trains run every hour. |
