A Good Year for Expensive Pens

Omas issued the 360 Lucens Limited Edition to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Omas 360 model. The two significant dates, 1996-2006, are engraved on the pen. The fountain pens are made with a numbered run of 1,000 in two types of finishes. There are 500 pens with uneven numbers that have a high-tech finish and 500 pens with even numbers that have a golden finish. In addition to the fountain pen model, there were 360 rolling ball produced in 180 high-tech and 180 vermeil that follow the same numbering scheme. |

Another Omas limited edition is the sterling silver Invisibilis. The unique cap covers the entire barrel of the pen and is engraved with five images and esoteric symbols with the contours traced in blue enamel and enriched by the coral to represent the forces of water. The top of the pen has an engraved geocentric universe and the clip has the square plane of the pyramid-temple of Kukulcan at Chichèn Itzà. There are 23 18th century phrases engraved on the nib holder. The 18K gold nib has esoteric symbols. Pen companies have presentation right at the top, and this pen comes in a lacquered blue wood box. There were 1235 pens produced. |

| Dupont issued the Veritgo II in 2006. The pen has a Chinese Lacquer finish. A total of 400 pens were produced. | Faber-Castel issued the Pen of the Year. Each pen is numbered and the total production will be limited to the number of pens they produce in 2006. The pen barrel has Ebony Wood inset with Siberian Mammoth Ivory | Faber-Castell also issued the Walden Woods Pen made of ash wood salvaged from naturally fallen trees in Walden Woods. The pen body has a quote from Thoreau. The pen has a sleek platinum cap and production is limited to 2006 pens, priced at around $600.

Pelikan issued the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus to recognize one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. The pen is column-shaped, in a stone cast presentation case. The pen is palladium plated with ornament rings and a column crown which are fortified with 18K gold. There are oly 400 pens produced and the price is around $3,360.

The Blue Planet is about astronomy. A cobalt blue front section showing the Planet Earth. There were 540 pens produced to celebrate the 540 million years of life on earth. The pen goes for $1,985. |

The Colossus of Rhodes is a limited edition pen that is also to note one of the great wonders of the ancient world. There are 408 pens showing a golden replica of the statue. This one is about $3,600. |

| Montblanc issued the Sir Henry Tate in 2006. The pen has a platinum and lacquer fnish with a retractable nib. There were 4,810 pens produced. | Montblanc continues with its the Limited Edition Writer Series. In 2006 the Virginia Woolf is issued 75 years after the publication of the novel "The Waves". The pen has a wave-like guilloche work on the back resin body. It comes in a book-shaped presentation box. There are 16,000 fountain pens, 18,000 ballpoint pens and 4,000 sets which include a fountain pen, ballpoint pen and a mechanical pencil. Go to a Montblanc store or dealer as prices are never listed on the net. |
Also issued is the Montblanc 100 Years Solitaire Mountain Massif Skeleton 2006 pen. This is made of 18K white gold covered in 1,277 white and 123 rare blue diamonds. In the transparent cap head is a diamond that has been cut into the shape of the famous Montblanc star. You won't see this in any of the Montblanc boutiques as only three (3) pens are being made with a list price of 120,000 euros. |

| Parker issued a Duofold Mandarin Cloisonne (2006) with a yellow resin finish. There were 3,900 pens produced. | Sheaffer issued its Stars of Egypt (2006). The pen has a sterling silver finish. There were 499 fountain pens produced and they sell for $3,500 each. |

Caran d'Ache issued their Black Series Pen Set one for each day of the week. A black case holds seven black numbered Varius ballpoints pens in Chinese Lacquer, Zebu Horn, Carbon Fibre, Ebony, Coat of Mail, Rubber and Alligator, as well as black Goliath cartridges in fine, medium and broad, a velvet pouch and a polishing cloth. Pens are silver-plated and rhodium-coated for scratch-resistance. 500 sets produced selling at $3,400. |
Conway Stewart issued a couple of limited editions. They used an airbrush and hand painting to evoke scenes from the history of the First Pilgrim settlers. An ocean scene of the Mayflower at sail is on the cap and scenes of the colony painted on the barrel. The pens go for $2,450. The Windsor celebrates English gunsmiths. A sterling silver pen with a translucent blue resin barrel. There are 100 selling for $1,005. The Model 100 Icon Edition is in sterling silver and there are also 100 produced selling for $1250. |

Cartier issued a very ornate La Dona Crocodile which is inspired by the Latin American movie star, Maria Félix, popular in the 1940s and 1950s, like a Marilyn Monroe and a longtime customer of Cartier. Gold plated with a crocodile on the cap and the pen and a peridot set in the cap there are 888 produced and selling for $4,000. |
Marlen issued its Astrologie Pen that with a turn of the titanium sleeve shows off the planet glyphs associated with the day and hour. With a blue titanium barrel and a sterling cap there are 488 made going for $3,000.

| Krone - Audubonm, 2006. The pen is finished with sterling silver and mother of pearl hand painted. There were 188 pens produced. | Krone recognizes Sigmund Freud issuing a pen with an abalone cap with a sterling silver overlay. The barrel has a hand-painted montage of Freud's The Interpretation of Dreams. Freud's signature is engraved on the cap. Just 388 fountain pens proudced, as well as 18 made in gold. The fountain pen is $4950. | Krone issued its Gradient Pen with mother of pearl hand painted in a gradient. There are 388 pens selling for $1,195. |

Namiki's Pheasant and Sakura Pen has patterns carved into the lacquer surface with chisels. Then additional lacquer is poured into the carved grooves and gold foil or gold powder is inlayed. There is even platinum powder sprinkled on the petals of the flowers and tiny shells embedded in the center of the flowers. Lots of work and they made 99 selling for $10,000. |
As 2006 was the year of the DaVinci Code, Tibaldi issued a limited edition pen. The roller ball pen is available in silver for $3,075 or solid gold for $19,125.

| Visconti produced the Divine Proportion limited edition pen. Now here is a new twist. There is a riddle inside the pen, five numbers hidden inside the cap, clip, body and barrel of the pen. Solve the riddle to win a golden Visconti inkwell. There are 1,618 pens produced in sterling silver with a price tag of $1290. There are 1,917 produced with the pen standing inside a transparent cylinder on a steel and wood base for a cool $3,500. |

Delta was busy in 2006. Issuing a number of limited edition pens that including 570 La Citta Reale, 1500 Indigenous People - Indios and 994 Peace fountain pens. Their Alfa Romeo pen shows the Alfa logo and a replica of the car's grill and spoked wheels. The trim on the ring has the look of the tire tread. To finish it off they placed a ruby in the platinum-plated clip. With 1750 fountain pens they sell for $499. | |
