Back in 1988, Dante del Vecchio and Luigi Poli, both involved in the pen business, looked at the offering of pens in the market at the time, and had the dream to create pens that were more in character with beautiful celluloid pens of previous eras. They took that dream and with hard work, it paid off in the creation of the lead pen company, Visconti.
While Luigi left to work on other endeavours, Dante continued with his work to develop Visconti into the pen company it is today.
In September I had the opportunity to visit with Dante and talk to him about how he started the company, his challenges and to tour the current Visconti pen centre. I am pleased to publish my "Conversation with Visconti".
I was impressed with Dante and the pens that he has created.
So much is the result of his creativity and dedication to develop a quality pen that an individual would value. He is well linked into the difference of an individual wanting versus needing a pen.
I arrived at the Visconti offices using my Pelikan M800 - a great pen - and explaining to him that I did not own a Visconti, that I knew very little about Visconti pens, and they are hard to get in Canada. I can tell you that the M800 caught his eye.
Well I was able to write Dante this month to let him know that I am now the owner of three Visconti pens. They are now part of my collection of Pens of Note. Smooth writing nibs. Good solid weight and balance to the body. A good look to the design.
So, thanks Dante for your dream and hard work. You have created a great pen company that is producing high quality, innovation pens. What more would the someone ask for?
