Was it a holiday? On some days I was unsure. I would be up by 5:15am to head out so that I could capture the colours of the hills as just as the sun was coming up. Well, that was the plan. Each morning, there would be a heavy blanket of fog over the Chiana and Crete Senesi areas of Tuscany. The fog made for some dramatic photographs.
We really like staying here. The landscape of the Chianti region is very green and lush. What you find when you travel the full distance of Tuscany is that Tuscany is not the same in the different areas.
Our apartment was right by the pool, and the pool which just drops off over the vineyards and valley is a great way to relax at the end of the day.
Located just a few minutes outside of Castelina in Chianti, Pietrafitta has a good location. About a 45 minute drive to Florence where we went for the day - although next time we will take a train. Florence has an agressive traffic fine program. I am just waiting for the tickets to arrive as we did end of driving in the TZL zones. A fine if you do not have a permit.
It was relaxing and comfortable. Lunch in Pienza, drives to San Gimignano as well as the other Chianti centres.
Then for the last segment in Tuscany we stayed near Terontola, which is a small town located between the Castiglione del Lago and the hill town of Cortona.
The town is an important train store for this area of Tuscany. We met the owners at the train station who led the way up the hill to our little house.
We stayed at Il Leccio, near Cortoreggio, Tuscany. It was a drive up a narrow unpaved road to get to the top of the hill.
Our stay near Lago Trasimeno is right on the boarder of Umbria and Tuscany. The location was good positioning to see some of the town of that area, as well as to travel to other areas south into Tuscany.
Borgo di Pietrafitta is such a favorite of ours. The Chianti area of Tuscany is scenic and we are well positioned to visit towns in that areas as well as take a day trip into Florence. Heck it was in Castellina in Chianti that discovered the great Aperol Spritz drink!
We had lunch a couple of times at our favorite restaurant just outside of Radda in Chianti! Great food, and reasonably priced. Ristorante Le Vigne
