In Piacenza we will be staying at the Villa Partitore, located in Quartazzola. We are only a few nights there, but we will be sure to get some time around the pool to relax.

Piacenza

Here is a town in the Emillia Romagna Region that we have never visited. As we planned this year's trip we asked ourselves how that could have happened!

In reading about Piacerna, the center of the city is the Piazza dei Cavalli complete with the Palazzo Comunale or Gotico. The Piazza del Duomo has the Cathedral. Numerous monuments and buildings that include the Church of San Sisto, the Church of Sant’Antonio and the Neoclassical Theatre. There is also the Palazzo Farnese which was built in the 16th century.

Nearby in Val Trebbia rises Bobbio, a medieval village that supported the Abbey of San Colombano. The Basilica di San Colombano, the Cathedral and the Castle are all of note.

In Val Nure is the village of Grazzano Visconti that we plan to visit. This is a town built in the 1800's in no-Gothic style, which reproduces the architecture of the 14th century and is full of green areas and decorative elements. Should be interesting. Also in the Val d’Arda is Castell’Arquato with the Praetorian Palace and by the Fortress of the XIV century. Near Via Francigena is the Abbey of Chiaravalle a noted example of Cistercian architecture.

A number of medieval castles overlook the valleys and countryside creating great landscape views such as the Fortress of Castell’Arquato and the castles of Gropparello, Paderna, Rivalta, Rocca d’Olgisio.

There is the archaeological area of Veleia Romana, to see ancient Roman ruins of such as the Thermal baths, the Forum and the cathedral.
