Hotel Lapad

(2009) A much larger hotel than we usually stay in, but we found it to be lovely. A beautiful pool and outdoor restaurant. Also, a large restaurant where a very good breakfast is served…I wish I could say the same for the coffee. We had both lunch and dinner in the terrace restaurant and both were good.
We booked a Superior room and found that not all Superior rooms are the same size. Ours was smaller than our friends, but was fine for the one night we were staying there. Our rooms overlooked the pool and had a sea view. The bathrooms are trendy with glass walls and partial views into the rooms. The hotel has recently been renovated and is very modern and stylish.
All the staff were very friendly and we received concierge service from the front desk. They arranged a private boat to take us to Dubrovnik since we thought it would be fun to arrive in Dubrovnik by boat rather than taking the bus.. What a treat!! The boat owner, Ivan, was lots of fun and took plenty of pictures of us on the boat. We enjoyed it so much we had the hotel arrange the same boat for us the next day to take us to a couple of the nearby islands.
We took the bus back to the hotel and it was a very fast and short ride. It came up so quickly we almost missed the stop right in front of the hotel. The bus stop on the way into town is a bit of a jaunt down the street from the hotel.
Near the hotel there is a promenade with bars with outdoor seating. It is not along the sea, but it is an enjoyable walk anyway.

We were lucky the day we arrived in Dubrovnik that there were no cruise ships in. The old city is small and the idea of 3,000 people arriving at one time does not seem imaginable. What would it be like with two in port!! After a nice afternoon of walking around we had a wonderful dinner outdoors at Rosarij.
They get many good reviews from many sources including Travel & Leisure magazine It was a beautiful peaceful spot, but still only a few metres away from Stradun (the main street). The service was relaxed but attentive…you were not rushed at all. The food was good quality, and the wine was OK for the price. Ronco, our waiter (owner?) was lots of fun and at the end of the meal brought a bottle of Croatia’s version of grappa which had a somewhat medicinal flavour. It was much to my liking but the same was not true for my fellow diners.
My husband enjoyed his cuttlefish risotto as a starter and grilled calamari as the entrée. Much to everyone’s distain, being that we were in Croatia and on the sea, I had Weiner Schnitzel and it was incredible!!! Very light, almost fluffy, batter and extremely tender!!!!

(2009) It is not our practice to mention a hotel where we have not stayed, but in this case, we are making an exception. The Hotel Neptun is one of a few hotels run by the Importanne Resort and is owned and operated by the Zovko family. They had previously lived in Canada and moved back to Croatia purchasing and renovating these hotels. Since we were already committed to another reservation we did not book with them. Therefore, we cannot speak to the accommodations and service of the staff as we have not personally stayed there, although, we note many positive reviews on other web sites. What we can mention is the outstanding service we received from Dennis Zovko, the son , who helped us with the logistics of making a daytrip to the island of Hvar from Split. If this is any indication of what may be expected from one of these hotels it may be worth considering them as an option.
