PROVENCE-ALPES-CÔTE D'AZURE
Grasse
On any tour of Provence, a trip to Grasse is typically in the agenda. Located 15 from Cannes, this is the perfume capital of the world. The location of the town provides shelter from the sea air
Napoléon's sister, Princess Pauline stayed here in 1807 to gain back her mental and physical strength. Queen Victoria spend vacations here staying at the Rothschild's and the Grand Hotel — so you are in good company!
In the old town the streets wind up and down steps. Near the top of the town is the main square, Place aux Aires. An old three-tiered fountain is in the center, arcaded buildings are along one of the sides. The market that used to take place in the place stopped around 2004.
Lots of arches for photos! Of course there are tours of the perfume factories and we found that interesting, especially when you get the idea of the number of petals required.
The other main sight in the town is the Cathedral. It was founded in the 11th Century. Inside are works by three works of art by Rubens.
