BURANO

After a number of visits to Venice (Venezia) in 2010 we made the time to visit Burano, we were glad we did. We were asking ourselves why we had not been there before!

Burano is one of the islands in the Venetian Lagoon. It is a 40 minute vaporetto ride from Venezia.

Murano is well known for its glass, and tends to get more tourists. This is in part as there are friendly people in Venice who give you free taxi ride to Murano. The water taxi takes you to a glass factory and showroom.

The island was known for lace making but today it is really known for its brightly-painted houses. The colour schemes the island government controls.

We enjoyed our walk along the main canal, and some of the small side streets. Everytime you walk around a bend or turn a colour another assortment of bright colours just hits you.

There are a variety of shops to browse, so unlike Munaro, where you may overdose on Murano Glass very guickly, you cal walk and browse and see an assort of items.

We also have the opportunity to eat at the Riva Rosa, a restaurant and wine bar. We are designating this a Great Place to Eat on our Great Places to Stay web site. We had a delicious meal, the wine selection was very good. They have tables outside nicely set up and you can find a hour or so just float by.
