Marseille
We will return to Marseille. We have had only a brief stop in the town. On that day all I remember is traffic and the desire to get out of the place but from what we saw it is worth another visit.
Monaco
Monaco is a sight. We have visited it a few times, the most recent in 2001 which mainly seemed to centre on the search for medication! the Palace is interesting and the grand architecture of the Casino and the past pace of the town is not to be missed.

Les Santons, restaurant perched above the steam and water fall in Mousiters. |
Allow yourself enough time in Provence to take a drive through the Verdon Canyon and visit the small village of Moustiers-Sainte-Marie. Untouched by the pressure of tourism it reflects its own old character. Allow yourself time, we tried to ensure we would arrive with plenty of time to visit stores -- known for its cermanics - the town closes up at 12:30 and that will leave you nothing to do but have one of the best meals of your life at the restaurant Les Santons. The china made is Moustiers is different befcause of the exceptional clay of the area – fine, light, resonant and rose-beige in colour. Ceramic glazes known as "Faience" were introduced at Moustiers back in 1679.
Saint Maxime establsihed the village around 434 as part of the abbey. The village was owned by the Moustiers family until the 12 th century when it became part of Provence.

The look of the era! |
For us, Nice as been the point of entry for many trips to the South of France or Italy. Flights from London are frequent and the ability to picku our leased car through Renault (we really have liked the service and value of the Renault TT arrangements) at the Nice Airport has always been a plus. There is just no easier place to fly-in, pick-up a car, and within minutes be on the Autoroute heading to so many destinations. |
We have stayed in Nice at various hotels but over the years we have found Hameau - noted in our Great Places to Stay, and with their own web site, located just outside St. Paul-de-Vence to be the place to stay.
