Amalfi

The former Republic of Amalfi, rivalling Genoa, Venice and Pisa, dates from 9th Century.

Entering the town from the waterfront, just inside the gate you will be in the enchanting piazza del Duomo with the ninth century Cathedral of Saint Andreas (St. Andrew), whose remains are said to be buried in the crypt and one of the best gelato shops in Italy... the shop to the right as you come down the steps. The duomo was rebuilt in the last century.

Starting at the Piazza del Duomo there is a pleasant scenic walk to the Molini Valley (Valley of the Mills) where paper mills were established in early times, introducing paper to Italy duomo
